As we age, our likelihood of dying as the result of injuries sustained in a fire rise. By the time we are 85 years old, we are 4.5 times as likely to die from fire / burn injuries. Likewise, falls pose a serious threat to the survival of our 65+ population.
The McKinney Fire Department is pleased to partner with organizations in our community to create a safer environment for our seniors. We are committed to saving lives through home visits and educational sessions with civic groups, senior apartment and living facilities. We work with community organizations to provide assistance to individuals who may lack the resources to obtain items which could contribute to a safer home environment such as grab bars for bathrooms, handrails for stairways, handicapped ramps, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, portable fans, etc.
