McKinney Fire Department recognized for best practices by Texas Fire Chiefs Association

The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) has been recognized by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) Best Practices Recognition Program. MFD was evaluated for compliance of more than 117 best business practices for fire departments in the state of Texas and voluntarily conducted a critical self-review of the department's policies, procedures, facilities and operations. MFD is the eighth department in Texas to achieve this status.

“This recognition by the TFCA Best Practices program shows the dedication of the McKinney Fire Department to voluntarily push its level of service to a level of excellence. The fire department invited independent experts to evaluate their service and we are proud to see they are being recognized among the very best in Texas fire service,” said City Manager Paul Grimes.

The TFCA Best Practices program covers all aspects of fire department management and services including administration and organization, emergency medical service, fire prevention, risk reduction, community outreach, safety and health and professional standards and conduct.

The department began the process to become recognized by preparing proofs of compliance for each of the program's areas of concentration. Upon completion of an internal review, an outside audit and review was requested. The final on-site review was conducted by trained Fire Chiefs and Assistant Fire Chiefs from other areas of the state. The result of this review was then sent to the Texas Fire Chiefs Best Practices Recognition Board for final analysis and decision to award "Recognized" status.

The McKinney City Council will recognize the MFD at the regular meeting Tuesday, March 21. For more information about the MFD, visit the McKinney Fire Department website
