City of McKinney earns top statewide honors in municipal communications

The City of McKinney Communications and Marketing Department earned the top honor of a TAMI award presented by the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) for the city’s website. The website was updated in 2016 to feature an intuitive responsive design that makes it easier for residents and visitors to find information about city services and programs whether they use a desktop computer, tablet or mobile phone.

The city also won an Award of Excellence for the 2016 Electronic Annual Report, “The Best is Yet to Come.” The report featured major projects and vital city information through a traditional electronic annual report as well as a new video report that brought the McKinney story to life. The video offered a new platform to engage those who may not read a printed report.

A second Award of Excellence was awarded for the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) Buy Local marketing campaign. To commemorate the MCDC’s 20th anniversary, the City of McKinney created an ad campaign and video that brought awareness to citizens that decisions to buy local have a direct impact on quality of life in this community.

“The city is always seeking new opportunities to engage with the community and elevate communications, raising the bar year over year. Awards like these are a testament to the city’s commitment to promoting transparency and sharing vital information with our residents, businesses and visitors in unique and innovative ways,” said CoCo Good, Director of the McKinney Communications and Marketing Department.

The TAMI Awards program is the leading recognition program in Texas honoring excellence for municipal communication strategies. TAMIO is an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League, which represents about 98 percent of Texas’ urban population through its more than 1,000 member cities and towns. The TAMI Awards program, founded in 2001, serves as a professional high point for municipal communications work in Texas.
