Severe Weather Season
Spring and summer are the most likely times for severe weather outbreaks in North Texas. Three types of severe weather pose the highest threat to McKinney and the surrounding area: thunderstorms and accompanying lightning, flash flooding and tornadoes. Preparing for severe weather and knowing when to act provides the greatest lifesaving benefit in a crisis. For additional information about severe weather safety, visit the City of McKinney Office of Emergency Management or call 972-547-2850

Pool & Water Safety
Water is a big danger for people of all ages; but it is especially dangerous for children. Every year about 800 children in the U.S. drown - the number of students on 11 full school buses. Drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death among children ages one to three, and the second-leading cause among kids under 15. Despite these alarming figures, few people know that water is one of the top killers of children.

Sadly, poor supervision is to blame for most drowning deaths. Nine out of 10 children who die in the water are being watched by an adult, according to SafeKids Worldwide. Small children move fast and can fall into the water in the seconds it takes you to answer your cell phone or grab a towel. For lifesaving tips and other information on pool and water safety visit SafeKids.
