Join us nightly at 8:30 p.m. as everybody in the event will stop, quake and shake to celebrate this Oktoberfest tradition!
The name of the original Swiss song was “Der Ententanz” (The Duck Dance), rumored to be a drinking song sung at Oktoberfest. Sometime in the late 1970s, the song acquired the name “Vogeltanz” (The Bird Dance) or “Vogerltanz” (Little Bird Dance or Birdie Dance), although these names never caught on seriously in Germany. Our friends at the Tulsa Oktoberfest have “laid” claim to originating the Chicken Dance custom back in 1981, and who are we to “cross the road” and disagree? Okay, enough of the chicken references!
We’re calling it Texas’ largest Chicken Dance, and you get to experience it right here in McKinney! So, whether you’re in the Carnival zone, in front of a stage, or shopping in the Marktplatz, get your Chicken Dance on!
