Digital Media Policies

Photography and Video Recording

Photography or video recording is permitted at all City of McKinney facilities and events on city-owned property, except where posted otherwise. The City of McKinney reserves the right to require a person to leave the premises or cease taking photos or using a video device if city staff finds such behavior disruptive.

By their use of City of McKinney facilities, participants of programs and special events grant permission to the City of McKinney to take photos and videos of themselves and their children for publication in the program brochure, website and additional uses as the city deems necessary, unless the registrant or participant expressly files a written request as to the use of photos or videos of themselves and/or their children. All professional photography on city-owned property must be approved through the City of McKinney’s Communication and Marketing Department.

Social Media Policy

Social media sites operated by the City of McKinney are a place where we want to foster positive communication between the city and the citizens. We are excited about sharing information about what we are doing within the department as well as what is happening around our great city. We are also excited to hear from members of our community.

While the sites are not monitored by the city 24/7, all comments and replies are read on a regular basis and will remain unreported or a user unblocked if in keeping with the city’s user guidelines. Our user guidelines are as follows:

  1. Responses by the city to any comments from the public are limited to providing factual information. Moderators will not argue with any person who chooses to engage on this account.
  2. New postings should be relevant, current and appropriate. Keep comments short and to the point.
  3. Do not include personally identifiable information within your tweet. This would include but is not limited to addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers or other sensitive information.
  4. Do not represent yourself as another person.
  5. The City reserves the right to delete comments and/or posts that fall under the following categories:
    • Threats of physical violence;
    • Blackmail
    • Defamation
    • Obscenity
    • “Fighting words”
    • Solicitations to commit crime
    • Child pornography
    • Incitement of imminent lawless action
    • Plagiarism or infringement of intellectual property rights
    • Fraud, or other speech integral to criminal conduct.
  6. Repeat violators are subject to being blocked from accessing the City’s social media pages.

Website Translation

View the Site in Other Languages

By using Google Translate or the translation software in your browser, you are asking for pages on this site to be converted into a language other than English. As with any machine translation, the conversion is not context-sensitive and may not fully convert text into its intended meaning. Therefore, The City of McKinney cannot guarantee the accuracy of the converted text. We recommend that if you experience difficulty, or doubt the accuracy of the translation, you return to the main page for the department information and contact them for the information you seek. Please note that some applications or services may not work as expected when translated.

The City of McKinney also uses manual translation on a case-by-case basis for some of its more critical communications and uses machine translation for the rest because it is the only affordable and practical way to translate our website.
