Greens Of McKinney

March 20, 2019

Following the release of the March 8 update, a few questions came up regarding the donation of the 20-acre parcel to the city. To clarify, the Parks & Recreation Department is committed to acquiring this property and the current issues can be resolved. While it is Wilbow’s responsibility to coordinate efforts since they are the current owner of the parcel, please know that the city is assisting as much as we can.

We look forward to adding this piece of land to our parks system!

The purpose of this update is to follow up on the status of the city’s acquisition of a portion of the former golf course near Highway 5, between Eldorado Parkway and Stewart Road. On June 11, 2018 we received the donation and title to the 73-acre tract (Lot 1 in the photo below).

The Parks and Recreation Department currently maintains the property while the McKinney Parks Foundation has assisted with trail cleanup and landscape maintenance.

We have not yet received the donation of the 20-acre parcel (Lot 2 in the photo below). This portion is still owned and operated by the developer, Wilbow, which is currently converting the former golf course property south of Stewart Road into a new residential neighborhood.

The city remains committed to taking ownership of Lot 2 and incorporating it into our Parks system. We are actively working to achieve this goal.

During the city’s legal review of Wilbow’s Lot 2 documents, the city discovered a discrepancy in the plats and legal descriptions associated with Lot 2 and the abutting residential properties. In general, the property line between the future parkland and many of the neighboring backyards is not consistently depicted or described. This issue can be resolved and Wilbow is responsible for coordinating such efforts. The city will not accept the parcel until this item is resolved.

Going forward, we will post future updates to this page to better help communicate information to all residents in the vicinity of the property as well as the entire community.

Thank you for your support,
