Mission Statement

The McKinney Police Department Mission

To make McKinney a safe place to live, work and visit.

Achieving the Mission

The McKinney Police Department believes that living a good life in McKinney means feeling safe at home, at work and at play, so we take your safety seriously. We are committed to providing professional and effective police services so all citizens and visitors can enjoy everything McKinney has to offer.

To do this, the department has an authorized sworn force of 231 full-time certified police officers. In addition, we have 73 civilian staff members who provide clerical, crime analysis, property / evidence management and communications services.

Patrol and investigative officers are typically the most visible, but the department also provides specialized units to address specific crimes and community issues. These include Traffic Enforcement, School Resource Officers, Crime Awareness and Education, the K9 Unit, the Mounted Unit, SWAT and Negotiations, the Forensics Unit and the Community Services Unit. This unit partners with local agencies to provide assistance to homeless individuals as well as those with substance abuse and/or alcohol abuse problems.
