The Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney

The Crape Myrtle Trails Foundation was created in 1998 with the goal of making McKinney, "The place you go to see crape myrtles."

The foundation has partnered with the City of McKinney to do the following:

  • Plant thousands of crape myrtles within the city's medians, especially on Eldorado Parkway from Highway 5 to Ridge Road.
  • Develop The World Collection Park at 6452 Collin McKinney Pkwy. and make it home to all known varieties of crape myrtles - the only such collection in the world.
  • Gain the designation from the U.S. Congress as "McKinney, Texas: America's Crape Myrtle City."

The foundation has partnered with McKinney ISD for the following:

  • Distribute a one-gallon crape myrtle plant to each 5th-grade student on the Friday before Mother's Day. As of 2019, this totals about 20,000 crape myrtles.
