Fire sprinkler stops accidental flash fire

Fire sprinkler stops accidental flash fire

The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) today responded to reports of a kitchen fire at 2000 Skyline Dr. The Fire Investigator says the fire was caused by the mishandling of rubbing alcohol. It caused a flash fire that set off the fire sprinkler system. One person had first degree burns on his arm. He was examined by McKinney EMS, but decided to drive himself to the emergency room.

“Rubbing alcohol is a very common household item. But it contains isopropyl alcohol, which has fumes that are very flammable,” said McKinney Fire Marshal Mike Smith. “It needs to be properly stored away from other chemicals.”
