McKinney Air Center celebrates 10-year anniversary as a city asset, airport sees record operations

McKINNEY, Texas (Dec. 20, 2023) – The McKinney National Airport is proud to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the purchase of its fixed-based operator (FBO), the McKinney Air Center. In 2013, the McKinney City Council authorized the purchase of the FBO assets at the Collin County Regional Airport, now known as the McKinney National Airport, with the vision of creating a focal point of economic growth in the region.

Over the years, both the McKinney National Airport and the McKinney Air Center have become a vital part of the city’s infrastructure, contributing to the growth of the local economy and creating job opportunities for the residents. Since taking ownership of the FBO, revenues have increased on average by approximately $1 million yearly, and revenues for 2023 are almost $10 million higher than 10 years ago.

Fiscal Year 2023 was marked by increased operations, hangar rentals, and significant infrastructure and development projects. The airport experienced a record-breaking 5 percent rise in take-offs and landings, with nearly 152,000 operations.

"This significant growth at the airport is great news for the residents of McKinney. The ad valorem tax revenue generated by the airport and FBO pays for local road improvements, emergency services, education, and more,” said Ken Carley, Director of McKinney National Airport. “Additional growth will allow us to continue to improve the city in ways that even those who don't fly will benefit."

The airport's contributions extended beyond the city, generating approximately $2.3 million in tax revenue for McKinney Independent School District, nearly $266,000 for the county, and almost $142,000 for Collin College.
